With a rich history dating back to 1938, South Caernarfon Creameries is one of Wales’ main cheese production and cheese packaging companies, supplying to well-known supermarket brands such as Sainsburys, Lidl and Aldi. With a workforce of 160 employees and a turnover level of £60 million, we are developing at significant pace.

An ambitious 5-year growth plan is underway, which will see production levels increasing, employee numbers growing, and the ability to deliver services to a wider customer base. Heavy investment has been high on the agenda in recent years, with significant investment focused on a brand-new production plant and high-tech machinery. Imagine what you could achieve in a business like ours.

What will the role of Head of Engineering entail?

Reporting to the Head of Site Operations, as the Head of Engineering you will be responsible for leading a small Engineering and Site Maintenance Team, delivering high performance and service through excellence. You will work closely with Production Management and be responsible for the delivery of maintenance, ensuring maximum availability and optimum efficiency of the production plant, equipment, facilities and systems.

This is a key leadership role that will see you formulate the engineering strategy linked to the business plan and manufacturing strategies, to ensure efficiencies are met at all times.

What will I need to be considered for this Head of Engineering vacancy?

  • Strong mechanical engineering background with electrical multi-skilled experience
  • Superb people management skills with the ability to lead a cross functional and multi skilled Engineering Team, developing a high performance and service-oriented culture
  • Proven experience with budgetary control whilst leading and delivering engineering services and complex projects from site extensions to manufacturing kit installations
  • Experience developing and implementing continuous improvement programmes, and leading culture change in an engineering function (including changes in organisation design and working practices)

Although not essential, experience gained within a food manufacturing environment and a degree level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline would be highly advantageous for this role, as would knowledge of managing Asbestos, legionella, DSEAR, PUWER, LOLER, and pressure systems.

What will I receive in return?
