Our Company

Unimaq Ltd is a global leader specialising in the design, development and manufacturing of large precision machines and equipment to print preformed beverage cans at speeds exceeding 2000 cans per minute. The fully automated high-speed machines are designed, manufactured, built, and tested in Wrexham before being exported all over the world.

The Role – Mechanical Technician

Working as part of a friendly team, as a Mechanical Technician you will support the manufacturing area by performing the mechanical assembly elements of the build process. Your duties will include;

• Checking that kits of parts required for the build are correct
• Building of assemblies to drawing and/or building instructions to budgeted hours
• Performing mechanical measurements
• Cutting, threading, bending and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines
• Checking accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools or sub-assemblies
• Dismantling faulty tools and assemblies, repairing, or replacing defective parts
• Monitoring all tools/equipment used, ensuring they are within calibration and good repair, highlighting any issues or risks to Team Leader
• Providing status reports

Our Requirements – Mechanical Technician

• Experience gained within a manufacturing / production assembly environment
• Either achieved a C&G/NVQ Level 3 in Engineering / Plant Operations or qualified via Apprenticeship
• Have an NVQ or similar qualification in Fabrication
• Familiarity with mechanical measuring equipment
• Experience working to Safe Systems of Work
• Initiative with a logical and methodical approach to manufacturing
• Ability to multi-task with good attention to detail and concentration skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Well organised and delivery focused, with ability to work to tight deadlines
• Team player, with a proactive, collaborative approach

Although not essential, experience working within a aluminium beverage packaging or FMCG environment is desirable. A Forklift truck licence would also be beneficial.

As a Mechanical Technician, you’ll be part of a friendly working environment, where you’ll be encouraged to work independently on your own initiative, whilst benefitting from:

• A salary in the region of £30,000 to £32,000 with the level dependent on experience, potentially negotiable for a highly experienced candidate, plus paid overtime where applicable
• Private pension and healthcare cover after one years’ service
• Permanent contract with full time hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm (flexibility required)

You’ll be based at our site on the Wrexham Industrial Estate in North Wales.
