Workshop Foreman / PCV Technician / PCV Engineer

Permanent contract with full time hours

The company also supports the local community by providing several local bus services and rail replacement services for Transport for Wales, whilst catering for the various transport needs of the local schools, colleges and private customers.

As a result, the business has an exciting opportunity for an experienced PCV and/or HGV Mechanic to take on the role of Workshop Foreman with proven experience in maintenance, inspection, and diagnosis, to join its committed and skilled team.

What will the role of Workshop Foreman / Senior Mechanic / PCV Technician entail?

As the Workshop Foreman you’ll take responsibility for inspecting and maintaining a variety of PCV vehicles, diagnosing and rectifying defects as part of the Workshop Team and ensuring all vehicle documentation is complete. You will also provide mentorship and support to other members of the team. Your duties will include, although not be limited to:


  • Carrying out mechanical inspections, fault diagnosis and rectification
  • Ensuring all paperwork is complete following rectification, inspection and maintenance
  • Allocating the maintenance and inspection tasks to the appropriate Fitter
  • Ensuring labour time and parts used are assigned to the appropriate vehicle and budget
  • Ensuring vehicle defects are rectified effectively and efficiently by utilising stock parts
  • Working positively as a team member by sharing knowledge and supporting and mentoring other members of the team
  • Identifying and communicating repeat stock requirements to the Storekeeper
  • Reporting any defects relating to tools, plant or machinery
  • Ensuring repair and maintenance activities comply with legislation and regulation.
  • Covering out of hours emergencies as part of the on-call team

What will I need to be considered for this Workshop Manager / Senior Mechanic / PCV Technician vacancy?

  • Proven experience with PCV and/or HGV maintenance, inspection, and diagnosis
  • Level 3 Diploma in Bus and Coach Engineering and Maintenance (mechanical), or IRTEC Qualification in Maintenance and Inspection, or equivalent
  • Ability to lead and work effectively as part of a small team
  • Superb communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with a positive hands-on and can-do attitude
  • Basic IT literacy for inputting data during inspection and maintenance
  • Flexibility towards tasks and hours

Although not essential, a PCV Licence would be advantageous for this role.

What will I receive in return?

As the Workshop Foreman / PCV Technician / PCV Engineer, you’ll receive a salary of £34,000, plus on call bonus and overtime where available.

You will be employed on a permanent contract, working Monday to Friday with start and finish time to be agreed within 7am to 7pm. Flexibility will be required for some Saturday work when necessary.
