Prestatyn is just under an hour away from Anglesey and Bangor University, and just over an hours' commute to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester.
A growing hub for foodies
The town is increasingly becoming a fantastic destination for food and drink. There's a host of food and drink outlets in Prestatyn to enjoy - whether you're taking a break during work, having a business lunch, work meal or would like to go somewhere with your family and friends, you won't be short of choices. Plenty to do for the whole family
If you love the beach you can’t go wrong in Prestatyn – the town’s beautiful beach has miles of stretching sand dunes, flat sands and crashing waves to enjoy during the hot summer and also the cold winters! The beach is home to Prestatyn Sailing Club and you will often see boaters launching out to sea and people enjoying the sands with wind kites and buggies. There are stretches of fields alongside the beach which means it’s perfect for long walks with the dogs – and there are many activities for the family such as the newly refurbished Nova Prestatyn swimming centre, amusement arcades, children’s play areas, crazy golf and more.
Near to Prestatyn is the village of Talacre, where you can find the Point of Ayr Lighthouse, also known as Talacre Lighthouse. The grade II listed building was built in 1776 and has been featured in television programmes and adverts. The lighthouse attracts visitors from all across Britain, as during sunset when the sea sweeps across Talacre beach, the lighthouse looks like it's floating on the waves, showing a mysterious and beautiful optical illusion which is a lovely sight for the whole family.
The town is also a prime location for avid golfers. In the town is Prestatyn Golf Club and St Melyd Golf Club, and there are also two other golf courses in the area, located in nearby Rhyl and Rhuddlan. Prestatyn is also is a great spot for walkers and cyclists, with the town sitting at the bottom of where the Clwydian range begins to rise, and where the infamous Offa's Dyke Path begins.
History
Prestatyn has a rich history and is proud of its Roman connections. Up on Melyd Avenue you can find an old second century Roman Bath House which was discovered in the 1930s - and this bath is believed to have been used as far back as 120AD. A piece of artwork in the shape of a Roman helmet is also situated on the Hillside as a commemoration of the town's Roman Heritage.
Prestatyn is also home to Scala Cinema, which has been in the town since 1913. The much-loved family cinema was highly popular, well used and well attend by towners and people from neighbouring towns since it opened, until it sadly closed in 2000. However, due to tireless campaigns from the community, Scala was re-opened in 2009 and in 2010 the building was recognised by the Civic Trust Awards which was set up to recognise the "very best in architecture, design, planning, landscape and public art".
